NEW TO HOCKEY

U7

BEFORE YOU REGISTER

To register, you require a Hockey Canada ID Number for your player. If you are a returning hockey player from sanctioned hockey anywhere in Canada, you will have an ID #. If you are NEW to hockey or participated in the First Shift or ESSO Fun Days program, please contact us at fernieminorhockey@gmail.com so we can help you create your player's Hockey Canada ID Number.

WHAT YOU NEED

Full hockey gear is required with the exception of a mouth guard.

-Helmet (labelled with last name on it; as simple as a piece of tape and a sharpie works!)

-Neck Guard

-Shoulder Pads

-Elbow Pads

-Hockey Gloves

-Athletic Cup

-Hockey Pants

-Shin Pads

-Skates

-Stick

-Hockey Bag

-Water bottle -with extended spout is very helpful so they can hydrate through their helmet as they cannot be removed on the ice.

It is a good idea to label all of their gear

*Hockey socks and jerseys will be provided at the beginning of the season. Socks are yours to keep but JERSEYS NEED TO BE RETURNED TO YOUR MANAGER at the end of the season. Any name banners added need to be removed. If the jersey is lost or damaged you may be required to pay for the replacement.
New to Hockey
U7 is for children who will be 5-6 yrs old by Dec 31 of the current hockey season.
Currently Fernie Minor Hockey does not offer organized hockey for children younger than 5.  We encourage you to enroll your child in skating lessons or pursue family outings involving skating.  Occasionally, depending on demand, surrounding communities may offer once weekly initiation hockey for children under 5.
Contact fernieminorhockey@gmail.com with questions.
The season typically starts mid-September and ends mid-March.
Two 45-60 min practices per week. Days and times will be decided prior to the beginning of each season when number of kids and number of teams is determined.  Generally weekdays after school hours and/or weekend mornings.
Approx 8-10 exhibition games will be played over the season - primarily in Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford and the Crowsnest Pass. There are optional opportunities to play tournaments across the East Kootenay or in Southern Alberta.
The cost of tournaments varies and is separate/additional from the initial registration fees.
Fernie Minor Hockey is a volunteer-run organization.  We may host a home tournament in the Spring for the U7 division. Parents are expected to volunteer for fundraising, concession, raffle table, 50/50 and score keeping.
If you are interested in volunteering as a team coach, manager or safety person, please fill out a volunteer application by August 1st  https://www.fernieminorhockey.net/volunteer-application/

Coaches and managers will use TeamSnap to communicate to parents and players. Downloading this free app is recommended.
