FMHA is a volunteer-run non-profit organization and we require all parents to volunteer in some form throughout the year. If you do not want to participate as a board member or a rostered volunteer, there are many additional jobs needed such as scorekeepers, timekeepers, penalty box attendants, jersey parents, fundraising. Also note, that every team will host a home tournament at which ALL parents are expected to volunteer their time. Remember "many hands makes light work"

REGISTRATION POLICY

REFUND POLICY

  • A $75  non-refundable registration deposit is required to complete registration
  • Full fees are due by Sept 1, 2026.  No player is permitted to go on the ice until registration fees are paid in full. Families are responsible for costs associated with equipment, travel, additional tournament fees and/or special events as determined by the team.
  • Registration fees include practice ice, leagues games and associated costs, game socks, loaner use of game jersey.
  • Installment payment option is available for online payments.
  • Registration deadline May 31,2026. After which a late fee of $250 for all age groups will be added.
  • If a player has newly moved to the Fernie area and misses the early rate deadline, they may request that the $250 difference be waived, by emailing treasurerfmh@gmail.com . This will be subject to board approval and manual fee adjustment by the treasurer or administrator.

All players must register within their designated Hockey Canada divisions by birth year.

  • If you wish to make a request for your player to play above or below their designated age group, a written explanation must be submitted to the FMHA Board for review.      https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-tcXQ60tqwfH3WqAIoYpQgMbZjJ6ZnLy/view?usp=drive_link  There are strict criteria for allowing players to play outside of their designated divisions - please see the BC Hockey website or EKMHA website.
  • Due to limited capacity and available ice time, FMHA has moved to a late registration rule and away from the early-bird registration incentive.  Registration for the 2026/27 season will close May 31, 2026 - 11:59pm.  Late registrations after that time will be charged a late registration fee of $250 for 2026/27.
  • New players to FMHA at all divisions will not be charged the late fee.  Wait lists for new players will still apply when registration in the respective division is full.
  • Registration capacity limits will be set for each division based on projected team numbers.  When those limits are reached (even prior to the registration deadline) players will be waitlisted and need board approval to be accepted, depending on division structure, and team and player numbers. We are limited by Hockey Canada / BC Hockey in the maximum number of players we can roster on a team.
  • As of Sept 1, any late registration requests will only be considered for recreational "house" teams and not for "rep" or competitive teams, and are space permitting.
  • Late registrations may be considered up until Dec 1 (space permitting and upon board approval)
  • Every effort will be made to accommodate all players but registrations after capacity limits are reached or after May 31 may not be possible.
  • Should you wish to be placed on a waitlist, please follow the registration process in TeamSnap and select to be placed on the waitlist.  Also, please email fernieminorhockey@gmail.com  to alert us to your request.  Your player will be placed on a wait list while the board reviews final numbers of players and teams at each age group.
  • Late registrations after Sept 1 will only be considered for recreational "house" teams. Rep tryouts will be completed by mid-September and require earlier registration. No further late registration requests will be accepted after Dec 1st, unless there are exceptional individual circumstances which the board approves.
  • Any players wanting to participate in tryouts for Rep teams will receive separate communication regarding how to register for tryouts.
  • Any player who participates in Rep tryouts and subsequently withdraws from hockey is not eligible for any refund.
  • Players who wish to try out for the EK Avalanche AA T1 teams (U13-U18) and the Cranbrook Bucks T2/3 teams (U15-U18), must first register with their home association for insurance and residency  verification purposes. There will be a separate tryout fee and registration forms that must be completed prior to attending those tryouts (see CMHA website by May 31 and EKMHA website by June 30.

  • If a player withdraws, and then subsequently requests to re-register in the same season, this will be considered on a case by case basis. The full registration fee will apply, including the late fee. There must be space in the applicable team/age category.  There is no guarantee of an available team spot should a player withdraw and later request re-enrollment.
  • Tryout fees are non-refundable once the tryouts have started.
  • A player will not be permitted to participate in tryouts if their tryout fee has not been paid in full.
  • In the rare situation where there are insufficient players to offer a team in a specific age division in Fernie (or as a combined team with Elk Valley Minor Hockey at U13 and older), those players are eligible for 100% refund of fees, including the $75 deposit, and will need to request playing opportunities in other associations if they wish to play hockey for the season.
  • If a player is successful in making an EK Avalanche or Cranbrook Bucks higher level team, they may request a refund of their FMH fees (less the $75 deposit) and the player's family will be responsible for making full fee payments to their new team and program.
